As a proposition for an environmental charter school in Pittsburgh, flexible spaces that promote project-based learning challenge the standard classroom as a part of their intent to promote environmental responsibility from the students. As a part of the studio project's learning objectives, the middle school's design considers passive heating and cooling strategies, as well as water management on site. Situated in a transitional urban context, the building's massing functions as a knuckle in which the strong residential fabric connects with the strong linear boulevard.
